Paul Hester became a television personality in Australia with his own prime-time show and is working mostly as a freelance drummer (e.g. A Taste of DNA 1981 - American Clavé, AMCL 1003EP (12"). Since the break up, Neil has embarked on a successful solo career and Tim has resumed his, although they have continued to work together and have recorded a total of two Finn Brothers albums 2004. "You & You" b/w "Little Ants" 1978 - Lust/Unlust Music, 11-CAN-234. However, various members of the group still turn up as guest musicians at each other's concerts on a regular basis. They have since taken the name The DNA Disciples to avoid confusion with the no wave band described above, and also produced a second Suzanne Vega remix, "Rusted Pipe".

Finn decided to end the group soon after recording the first Finn Brothers album in 1995, and Hester returned for their massively successful free farewell concert on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in November 1996. DNA was also the pseudonym taken by two British dance producers for a remix of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner". The group broke up amicably in 1996, following Hester's acrimonious departure in April 1994 during an American tour; he was replaced for a short time by Jones. The contemporary indie rock band Blonde Redhead takes its name from a DNA song. Members of the band included Tim Finn (Neil's brother) in 1990/91, Nick Seymour, Paul Hester (1986-1994), session musician and Supertramp recruit Mark Hart (1993-1996) and Peter Jones (1994-1996). Lindsay and Mori and to a lesser extent Crutchfield have remained active in music. They released four albums during their career: Crowded House, Temple of Low Men, Woodface and Together Alone, plus the posthumous Best-Of Recurring Dream as well as the rarities collection Afterglow. DNA on DNA, a comprehensive CD chronicle of the band, was released by No More Records in 2004.

By far New Zealand's most internationally-successful popular musicians, their notable hits include "Better Be Home Soon", "Something So Strong", "Don't Dream It's Over", and the Byrds-influenced "Weather with You". DNA's final encore was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." Sadly, this is not included on the CD Last Live at CBGB, released more than a decade later on John Zorn's Avant label. The group's output was mainly folk-influenced pop-rock, but Finn's outstanding songwriting skills made them stand out from similar bands. It's a measure of the cult following the band had developed that its final concerts were three consecutive sold-out nights at CBGB. Tim Finn joined the group for their third album, Woodface but left again soon after. Lindsay, Mori, and Wright decided to dissolve the band in 1982. Early in their career they also invited former Split Enz keyboard player Eddie Rayner to join, but he declined. Some live DNA tracks appeared on compilation albums while the band was still in existence.

The first incarnation of the band in 1985, The Mullanes, was a 4-piece which also included guitarist Craig Hooper, formerly of The Reels, but Hooper left the group before their first album and the change of name to Crowded House. DNA recorded but one (brief, approximately 10 minutes) album - A Taste of DNA - for Kip Hanrahan's American Clavé label (later on Rough Trade) in 1980. Bassist Nick Seymour was the younger brother of singer-songwriter-guitarist Mark Seymour, leader of Australian rock group Hunters & Collectors. Live shows were frequent in this period, but rarely outside of the CBGB - Mudd Club - TR3 circuit in lower Manhattan. Neil Finn and Paul Hester were former members of Split Enz; Neil was the younger brother of Split Enz founding member Tim Finn. The Lindsay-Mori-Wright lineup of DNA developed something of a cult following between 1979 and 1982, but more with art than with rock audiences. The group had important connections in the Australian and New Zealand rock scenes. Song structures became tighter, briefer, more abstract, and have been compared to haiku.

Performing in the 1980s and 1990s, the group was based around the songwriting and vocal talents of lead singer, composer and guitarist Neil Finn. The music became even more spare and angular, with Wright's bass lines creating a sometimes menacing sound. Crowded House was an Australasian rock group; two original members were from Australia and one was from New Zealand. After the rapid departure of Stevenson and Cervenka, Lindsay and Crutchfield hastily recruited Ikue Mori - a Japanese woman with little command of English and no drum set - to be DNA's drummer.

DNA originally consisted of Lindsay, Crutchfield, Gordon Stevenson, and Mirielle Cervenka, and took its name from a song by another no wave band, Mars. Their music was described as spare, noisy, and angular and was compared to some of Captain Beefheart's output and even to Anton Webern.

Rather than playing their instruments in a traditional manner, they instead focused on making unique and unusual sounds. Formed in 1978 by guitarist Arto Lindsay and keyboardist Robin Crutchfield, DNA were inspired by a promoter who wanted a band composed of first-time musicians. DNA was a short-lived but influential New York rock band, associated with the no wave movement.
