Courtney Thorne-Smith

She has also starred in movies such as Summer School (1987), Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987), and Side Out (1990). She is the daughter of NBC television executive Pat Weaver and niece of comedian and actor Doodles Weaver. Courtney made her first movie appearance in the 1986 feature film drama, Lucas. Many of her roles since have been in knowing reference to the tough character of Ripley. Her most notable television credit was playing Alison Parker on the nighttime drama Melrose Place (1992-1997). Other notable TV roles included Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal (1997-2000) and, currently, wife Cheryl on According to Jim. Her part in Ridley Scott's 1979 film Alien as the sole survivor, Lieutenant Ripley, ensured her role in the sequels Aliens, Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection.

She was born in San Francisco, California. During the 1970s Weaver studied theater at Yale University, where she appeared in original plays by friend and classmate Christopher Durang.
