Christian Bale

His first acting role was in 1983 in a British commercial for Pac-Man cereal. He died in London at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, from complications as a result of AIDS on October 10, 1993. After being cast, 5 months later, having to lose most of his body fat he gained before the auditions, he weighed a total of 210-220 pounds (95 to 100 kg) of mostly muscle mass. During the 1980s, Bindon became a virtual recluse and heroin addict. After wrapping up the movie, within six weeks he gained back the 59 pounds (27 kg) to audition for the lead in Batman Begins. The trial along with the Oakland incident seriously damaged Bindon's reputation and he never worked in the entertainment industry again. Bale went from 180 to 121 pounds (82 to 55 kg) for The Machinist. He gave himself up to police and in the subsequent trial at the Old Bailey in November, 1979 was acquitted of Darke's murder.

His father married Gloria Steinem in 2000 but sadly died of brain lymphoma in 2003. Darke was stabbed nine times and Bindon managed to flee to Dublin with his own knife wounds covered up. On January 29, 2000 he married Sibi Blazic (Winona Ryder introduced them). In 1978, Bindon became involved in a fight with John Darke, a police informer, at the Ranelagh Yacht Club, in Fulham, London. His great-uncle Rex Bale was also an actor. Peter Grant later stated that allowing Bindon to be hired was the biggest mistake he ever made as manager. He is active in several environmental and animal protection organizations including the Ark Trust, Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Foundation. Bindon was dismissed by the band and returned to England.

He does not eat red meat (reputedly due to reading the book Charlotte's Web). All four were found guilty and given suspended sentences. He has two dogs called Mojo and Ramone and three cats called Miriam, Molly, and Lilly. The band did not realise the extent of what was happening until their concert at the Oakland Coliseum on July 23, 1977, when an off-stage incident involving Bill Graham's security man Jim Matzorkis, resulted in charges against Peter Grant, Richard Cole, John Bonham, and John Bindon. Christian also is excellent horseman and avid reader and he also has a reputation as a great animal lover. Unfortunately Bindon took his job to the extreme and during the tour much violence occurred behind the scenes directed mostly at journalists and concert staff. It is reported that in Metroland he is using his real accent. Bindon had previously provided security for actors Ryan and Tatum O'Neal.

He has used a different one in almost every movie he has acted in. In 1977, Bindon was hired by tour manager Richard Cole to act as security co-ordinator for Led Zeppelin. Christian Bale is known for his unerring accuracy in mimicking accents. It was to be a move which would have disastrous personal consequences. He is currently filming Batman Begins. Despite a productive film and television career, Bindon decided his future lay with organising security. He has since won roles in notable films such as Velvet Goldmine and the lead in American Psycho. He also appeared in the television series Softly Softly playing out his usual tough guy role as well as the cult classic film Get Carter in 1971.

After this he drew further attention when he won the much-coveted role of Laurie in Little Women, having been hand-picked for the role by Winona Ryder (who was set to play Jo in the film). Bindon's best known film role was his appearance in The Who's film Quadrophenia where he played a drug dealer. For this role and his role in the 1993 film Swing Kids Christian trained for 10 weeks in dancing and martial arts. In 1968, he was awarded a police bravery medal for rescuing a drowning man in the River Thames. However, he continued acting, next appearing in Henry V and TV roles before taking on several movie projects in row starting in 1992 with the Disney musical Newsies. His portrayal earned critical praise and it typecast him for future roles. The new-found celebrity status brought some trouble for the 13-year-old. His next big break came with the Mick Jagger film Performance, where he played the role of a violent mobster.

His "big break" came in 1987 when he was picked for the role of Jim in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. He approached director Ken Loach who considered him perfect for the role of a rough husband in the film, Poor Cow, released in 1967. He began his acting career by appearing in a Pac-man cereal commercial in England in at age 9 and then appeared a year later in the West End play The Nerd. In 1966, Bindon decided to pursue acting in a bid to go straight. Christian spent his childhood in a variety of countries including England, Portugal and the United States. Growing up in the tough backstreets of London, he spent some weeks in juvenile detention on various charges. He has three older sisters: Erin Bale (married name: Kreunen) (a musician), Sharon Bale (a computer professional) and Louise Bale (a director/actress). Bindon went to school at Fulham where he became a noted rugby union junior, but left at the age of 15.
