Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan (born March 23, 1953) is the stage name of American singer Yvette Marie Stevens.

Khan first came to the attention of the music world as the singer of the funk band Rufus in the mid-1970s and with the help of Stevie Wonder, broke into both the pop and R&B charts in 1974 with the hit Tell Me Something Good. Throughout the 1970's and early 1980's, the band had a number of R&B hits including Ain't Nobody, Do You Love What You Feel?, and Everlasting Love. In 1978, launched her smash hit: I'm Every Woman. A few years later, Khan released her hip-hop based hit, I Feel for You, written by Prince, which launched her recording career back into full gear.

Khan's career has been gratifying in terms of record sales, but she continues to record and expand musically. Her legacy as a soul icon is indisputable.

In September 2004 her 25 year old son Damien Patrick Holland was arrested on charges of murder in the first degree.

On December 3, 2004, she received an honorary doctorate degree from Berklee College of Music.

1992 The Woman I Am. After being signed to Warner Brothers in 1999 their first album, Hybrid Theory, was released in 2000. 1988 C.K. Working with an independent label, the band recorded the album Hybrid Theory EP, which featured "Carousel", "Technique", "Step Up", "And One", "High Voltage", "Part of Me". 1986 Destiny. However, it has also been suggested that the name "Linkin Park" was suggested so that the band would appear right next to Limp Bizkit at record stores. 1984 I Feel for You. However the domain "lincolnpark.com" cost more than the band could afford, so they changed the spelling to Linkin Park.

1982 Chaka Khan. Eventually, they settled on Lincoln Park, suggested by Bennington because after band practice he would have to drive past there to get home. 1982 Echoes of an Era. Some discarded ideas (serious or not) were Clear (the band's favorite), Probing Lagers (which they thought was the lamest), Ten PM Stocker (because they would record every night at 10 pm at a place on Stocker Street) and Platinum Lotus Foundation. 1981 What Cha' Gonna Do for Me?. The band called itself Hybrid Theory after the addition of Bennington (the idea being that they were a hybrid of rock and rap), however, due to a trademark issue with a band called Hybrid, they were forced to change their name. 1980 Naughty. since I learned how to talk I've been telling everybody I was gonna grow up to be a singer." laughs Bennington.

1978 Chaka. "When I was two, I used to run around singing Foreigner songs - there's tapes of me doing that.. 1983 Live: Stompin' at the Savoy. They got Chester Bennington(in substitution of Mark Wakefield), a transplanted Arizona native who started making records when he was 16. 1981 Camouflage. Then Shinoda decided to hire a vocalist, and put out an ad. 1979 Masterjam. They never got signed, and the project floundered.
