In a 2004 poll, readers of FHM magazine voted that she had the best looking bottom in show business. She died in 1984 and was interred in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California. Her dimensions are: Bust 90cm, Waist 54cm, Hips 86cm (35"/21"/34"). Soon after, she left film for almost twenty years, returning one last time in 1957 in Bernardine. Electra is now married to musician Dave Navarro, formerly a member of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers and currently a member of Jane's Addiction. In 1937, she was again nominated for an Academy Award, this time for her role in A Star Is Born. Electra achieved considerable notoriety during her on-again, off-again marriage to basketball star Dennis Rodman. Gaynor was one of only a handful of leading ladies who made a successful transition to sound movies over the next decade.

She also regularly performs with the dance revue The Pussycat Dolls. The award was given on the basis of the actor's total work over the year, and not just for one particular performance. Electra has appeared in several films, such as The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human and the horror spoof Scary Movie. It was the only time in Oscar history that this prestigious award was given for multiple roles. This led to an increasing role as a television personality on various shows, including regular roles on MTV's Singled Out and Baywatch. Her performances in Seventh Heaven (the first of twelve movies she would make with Charles Farrell) and both Sunrise and Street Angel (in 1927, also with Charles Farrell) earned her the first Academy Award for Best Actress in 1928. In 1995, Electra started appearing in television programs such as Nickelodeon's All That and then in May of 1996 she appeared in Playboy magazine. Within one year, Gaynor was one of Hollywood's leading ladies.

Her singing career was both short-lived and unsuccessful. Her outstanding performance won her the attention of producers, who cast her in a series of films. Soon after, she signed a recording contract with Paisley Park Records, Prince's company. Finally, in 1926, she was cast in the lead role in a silent film called The Johnstown Flood, the same year she was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars. In 1992, Electra moved to Los Angeles and within one week met singer Prince. For two years, she supported herself with odd jobs in Los Angeles while taking minor roles in films. Her birth name was Tara Leigh Patrick. (She is not related to adult film actress Tera Patrick, whose real name is Linda Hopkins Shapiro.). Upon graduating from high school, Gaynor decided to pursue a career in acting.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born Laura Gainor in Philadelphia, her family moved west to San Francisco when she was a child.
