In the biggest musical departure, Bill Steer reappeared in Firebird, a Claptonesque guitar-rock trio. Cooke was inducted as a charter member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Michael Ammott went on to found Arch Enemy, a successful Swedish death metal band. Some posthumous releases followed, many of which became hits, including "A Change Is Gonna Come", an early protest song which is generally regarded as his greatest composition. Ken, Jeff and Carlo continued with the Blackstar project, which went defunct after Ken suffered from a brain haemorrhage. The verdict was justifiable homicide, though many believe that crucial details did not come out in court, or were buried afterward. Carcass broke up after releasing "Swansong", which drew more heavy criticism from fans for its melodic riffs and "mainstream" sound, which in some ways bordered on late 80s thrash. Though the details of the case are still in dispute, it seems he was shot to death by Bertha Franklin (the manager of Hacienda Motel, where Cooke was staying) who claimed she killed him in self-defense and that he had raped a young woman, then threatened Franklin.

Michael Ammott left the band after "Heartwork", replaced by Carlo Regarda. He was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Glendale, California. In fact, today some credit Carcass with being a very early (some would argue founding) influence for not just one, but two genres of metal (grindcore and the Swedish melodic sound). Sam Cooke died under mysterious circumstances on December 11, 1964 in Los Angeles, California. In contrast, others were very receptive to what was perceived by many as a new zenith of talent and composition in death metal, showing a command of motif development and harmony that is underappreciated even within the metal community. In spite of this, he released a critically acclaimed blues-inflected LP in 1963, Night Beat. With Carcass having signed to Sony before the release of "Heartwork", some fans regarded the evolved sound as proof of the sellout they had expected. Like most R&B artists of his time, Cooke focused on singles.

Their best-known album, "Heartwork", was largely devoid of the gory lyrics and grind style that had been present on their earlier recordings, with a cleaner, more melodic sound, but retaining occasional forays out of more complex harmonies into amodal grind. This was followed by more hits, including "Sad Mood", "Bring it on Home to Me", "Another Saturday Night" and "Twisting the Night Away". Starting with "Necroticism: Descanting Insalubrious, the careful listener could hear music-theoretic experimentation beyond the amodal noise of previous work, and even a hint of the harmonic minor scales that would later crystallize more fully. His first RCA single was the hit "Chain Gang"; this is probably his most famous song. Having started their career as a goregrind band, the band gradually changed their sound and lyrical content. Cooke then created a publishing imprint and management firm, then left Keen to sign with RCA. Typical Carcass song titles from their early work include 'Lavaging Expectorate of Lysergide Composition' and 'Microwaved Uterogestation.'. Though a R&B performer writing his own songs and achieving mainstream fame was innovative enough, Cooke continued to astonish the music business in the 1960s with the founding of his own label, SAR Records, which soon included The Simms Twins, The Valentinos, Bobby Womack and Johnnie Taylor.

There is more evidence to show that this lyrical focus was a method of pushing vegetarian beliefs (for example "Exhume To Consume"). He signed with Keen Records in 1957, with his own "You Send Me", which had massive mainstream success. This lyrical focus lead many in the music press to falsely believe that one or more members of the band had studied medicine. Specialty Records, the label of the Soul Stirrers, complained to Bumps Blackwell, Cooke's pop producer, resulting in the loss of Cooke's contract. The band focused on topics mostly relating to the medical field and bizarre combinations of medical equipment and chemicals with human anatomy. His first pop single, "Lovable" (1956) was released under the alias of Dale Cooke, in order to not alienate his fan base. In 1987, bassist and vocalist Jeffrey Walker formerly of the Electro Hippies joined them. In 1950, he joined The Soul Stirrers and achieved significant success and fame within the gospel community.

On their first demo, an Indian named Sanjiv did the vocals. He started his musical career as a member of a quartet with his siblings, the Soul Children, followed by a teenage turn as a member of the Highway CQs, a gospel group. They were based in Liverpool. Sam Cooke (January 22, 1931 - December 11, 1964) was a massively popular gospel music and R&B singer, born Sam Cook in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
