Buckcherry is a rock and roll band that reached its zenith of popularity with its only hit, "Lit Up," in the 1990s. They have sinced divorced. She married actor Val Kilmer after they met on the set of Willow in 1988. The group split up soon thereafter and Joanne went on to become an actress.

In 1982 at Abbey Road Studios, they recorded the Shangri-Las song "Past, Present and Future" and the next year, "Terry" by Twinkle. Cindy & The Saffrons was a singing group made up of Joanne Whalley as "Cindy" and Lindsay Neil and Sally Stairs as The Saffrons.
