Annie Potts

Potts is currently a visiting professor of Drama at the school. Members have included Rubén González, Raul Planas, Pio Leyva, Puntillita Licea, Yanko Pisaco and more recently Caridad Hierrezuelo and Pedro Calvo. She has been instrumental in fundraising efforts for the college for many years. They are especially well-known internationally for their 1997 album A Toda Cuba Le Gusta, which was recorded at the Buena Vista Social Club sessions. Today, Potts continues as a dedicated alumna and Board Member of Stephens College. Their music is a mix of all the styles of Cuban music, including bolero, chachachá, salsa, son montuno, timba, guajira, danzón, rumba and abakua. She is probably best known for her roles in Ghostbusters and in the television sitcom, Designing Women, but has done a wide variety of prominent roles in both television and film. Afro-Cuban All-Stars is a Cuban band led by Juan de Marcos González (formerly drummer for Sierra Maestra).

She is the daughter of Powell Grisette Potts and Dorothy Harris (Billingslea) Potts and has two older sisters, Mary Eleanor (Potts) Hovious, and Elizabeth Grissette ("Dollie") Potts. She then received her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree (in theater arts) from Stephens College in Missouri. She was born in Franklin, Kentucky, where she graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School. Annie Potts (born October 28, 1952) is an American television and film actress.
