Annette Bening (born May 29, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas, USA) is an American actress.

Biography

Bening's family moved to San Diego, California in 1965. In junior high, she played the lead in The Sound of Music. She finished high school in three years and attended San Diego Mesa College. She completed her drama degree at San Francisco State University. Bening then studied at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater, and joined its acting company. In 1985, she moved to New York where she won a Tony Award nomination for her debut performance in Coastal Disturbances. However, she endured a five-year struggle before breaking into film.

Her first film was Manhunt for Claude Dallas, a made-for-TV movie which came out in 1986. Her first major feature film role was in The Great Outdoors (1988). She garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Grifters (1990) and Best Actress in a Leading Role for American Beauty (1999).

Bening met actor Warren Beatty on the set of the film Bugsy (1991) and the two started a secret romance. On March 12, 1992, she married Beatty. The couple has four children.

The couple has four children. Due to scheduling conflicts the scene was shown on the Los Angelas set of General Hospital, instead of the New York set where All My Children is taped. On March 12, 1992, she married Beatty. She hosted a 25th Aniversary special about the show in 1995, and made a brief cameo as Verla on the January 5th 2005 episode celebrating the 35th aniversary of the program. The case is a landmark in the study of libel cases involving celebrities, although the unprecedented $1.6 million verdict was reduced on appeal, and the case was eventually settled out of court.

Burnett drew attention in 1981, when she sued the National Enquirer for libel after the tabloid newspaper described her alleged public drunkenness. She completed her drama degree at San Francisco State University. Its ensemble cast included Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner and Vicki Lawrence, who was cast partly because she looked like a younger Burnett. She finished high school in three years and attended San Diego Mesa College. The hour-long The Carol Burnett Show was a huge success, garnering 22 Emmy awards and continuing to success in syndicated re-runs. In junior high, she played the lead in The Sound of Music.
