Anne Ramsey

Anne Ramsey (September 1, 1929 - August 11, 1988) was an American actress who is most recognized for two roles: as Mama Fratelli in Steven Spielberg's The Goonies; and as the mother of Danny DeVito's character in her Academy Award nominated performance in Throw Momma From the Train. She has appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies, and won an Emmy in 1990 for the mini-series People Like Us. Because of the second-rate film roles that came her way in the 1970s, Saint returned to television and the stage in the 1980s. Her best known films were in the early years of her career: A Hatful of Rain (1957) with Don Murray, North by Northwest (1959) with Cary Grant, and Exodus (1960) with Paul Newman. Her first film role was in On the Waterfront (1954) with Marlon Brando, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

She studied acting at Bowling Green University, and did some work in radio and television before winning the Drama Critics Award for her stage role in A Trip to Bountiful (1953). Saint was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA. She played the blonde, graceful leading lady in many films, starting in the 1950s. Eva Marie Saint (born July 4, 1924) is an American actress.
