Anna Magnani

She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6381 Hollywood Blvd. She sometimes appears in credits as "Penelope Miller". Her single marriage, to director Goffredo Alessandrini, did not last long. In 2000, she married James Huggins and later that year had her first child Eloisa May. Magnani had celebrated love affairs, with director Roberto Rossellini and with actor Massimo Serato, with whom she had a son, who was stricken with polio. She has appeared in a number of TV and theatrical movies since then, notably Carlito's Way in 1993. She also starred in The Secret of Santa Vittoria. Her film debut came in 1987 in Adventures in Babysitting, while in 1988 her role as Emily in Our Town garnered her a Tony award nomination.

In 1957, she was nominated for Best Actress for Wild is the Wind. She moved to New York City to study theater after graduating from high school. In 1955 she went to Hollywood, and starred in the film version of Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
