. In March of 2003 he released Friends for Life, which featured more sharply political songs. Some song tracks include: "I'm Adolf Hitler", "The Guy Who Shot His Kid Up With AIDS is Awesome", and "I Went Back In Time, And Voted For Hitler". Inna Heights (1997) substantially increased Banton's international audience. They released Split With The Raunchous Brothers in 2000. The song inspired several clubs to stop playing songs with excessively violent subject matter. Additionally, infamous punk rocker GG Allin has a song titled "Anal Cunt", but there is no relation between them. It also included a single called "Murderer" which condemned the violence in Jamaican dancehall music, inspired by the murders of dancehall musicians Panhead and Dirtsman.

Since 1997, Anal Cunt has also become known for its acoustic black metal side-project Impaled Northern Moonforest, another joke band. Till Shiloh (1995) was an influential album, using a studio band instead of synthesized music, and marked a shift away from dancehall towards roots reggae for Banton. Anal Cunt's take on making song titles a joke in themselves may have influenced many other hardcore and grindcore bands who attempt to get laughs from humorous, but often cryptic, titles. He began supporting AIDS education and released a song called "Willy (Don't Be Silly)" (1993; The Voice of Jamaica), promoting the use of condoms. However, they are still going strong in 2005. Since this time, Banton has become more socially conscious, leaving behind his old style of singing songs of violence and promiscuity. The band was meant as a joke, and was to only release one album and do one show. Banton, who had just signed to Mercury Records, was forced by his label to issue a statement; he refused to apologize and cited his religion (Rastafarianism) as the basis for his beliefs.

He choose the name by making a list of obscene words, and then trying to find the most stupid, offensive combination of them--Anal Cunt. He is one of the most popular musicians in Jamaican history, having hit the charts there suddenly in 1992, with "Bogle" and "Love Me Browning/Love Black Woman", both massive hits in Jamaica and less so abroad. Soon afterwards, Banton released "Boom Boom Bye Bye", a controversial song that advocated violence and murder towards Jamaican homosexuals (called "batty boys"). Anal Cunt was founded in 1988 in Massachusetts by Seth Putnam. "Banton" is a Jamaican word referring to someone with a superior attitude, but was also the name of a local artist (Burro Banton) that Buju watched as a child. The sound of a typical Anal Cunt song is loud distorted guitars usually just open strings, drums whacked endlessly and really loud screaming. "Buju" is a common nickname for chubby children; it means "breadfruit". One recurring song title is X is gay, with X being variable: some well-known examples are The Internet is Gay, Windchimes are Gay, and The Word 'Homophobic' is Gay. He was born in a slum near Kingston called Salt Lane.

Some examples of their less controversial song titles are Hitler Was A Sensitive Man, I Hope You Get Deported, and Connor Clapton Committed Suicide Because His Father Sucks (the original title for Your Kid Committed Suicide Because You Suck). Buju Banton (born Mark Myrie 1973) is a Jamaican dancehall and ragga singer. One ongoing dispute is how much Anal Cunt actually believes in what they say on their albums. The band has often been criticized for its popularity being based solely on their controversial song titles and lyrics rather than any musical ability, and is often quoted when a debate is being made against the grindcore genre of music. Their song titles consist almost entirely (barring the Picnic Of Love album, as well as covers of the A-Team and Hungry Hungry Hippos themes) of generally offensive material.
