Amorphis

Amorphis is well known for their use of (the English translation of) the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, as a source for their lyrics. She also performed with roots rock reggae musician and singer Burning Spear. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but in later albums they have evolved into making songs that are more classifiable as mainstream but nevertheless with increasingly complex arrangements. Badu dropped her "slave name" "Erica Wright" in favor of "Badu", which she reports as Arabic for "to manifest truth.". Amorphis is a Finnish metal band started by Jan Rechberger and Esa Holopainen in 1990. Some music journalists have labeled her Nu soul, nouvelle-soul or neosoul, often comparing her to Billie Holiday in lyrical delivery and grouping her with Maxwell and D'Angelo in musical genre. Pekka Kasari (drums) (1996-2002). She weaves unusual musical influences together creating a rich texture of sound.

Olli-Pekka Laine (bass) (1992-1999). She is probably best known for "You Got Me," her collaboration with The Roots, as well as her own songs "Tyrone", "Next Lifetime", "On & On", and "Clevah."
